Last week was our second annual Battle of the Classes competition, ending in our traditional Spring Pep Rally. All week long the classes put their hearts into fighting for the title of best grade. Battle of the Classes was run this year by Ms. Williscroft and the student government, and once again they did a fantastic job.
There were a few factors that went into deciding the final winner for the competition this year. These factors included spirit week participation, attendance, and of course, points gathered from the games hosted during all lunch periods. Our spirit week had everything from Adam Sandler day on Monday, Jersey day on Tuesday, anything but a backpack day on Wednesday, piney v prep on Thursday and of course a Friday spirit day. Following our fun spirit days were the competitions, periods 4-7, everyday. Monday morning started with a carnival throw relay and Friday afternoon ended with a potato sack race.
Some honorable game mentions include the wing eating challenge, completed by teacher representatives. After last year’s controversy with deciding sauces, this year everybody had to use buffalo and it slowed the entire competition down. Mr. Onorevole, representing the senior class, pulled through anyway and won the competition. He finished in such a close match with Mr. Mulligan, they had to spend up to five minutes watching the tapes. Luke Crotty, a junior here, mentioned his favorite game to watch was Tug of War, an opinion many seemed to nod in agreement to. This game was also won by the senior class.
At the end of the week it was no surprise that the seniors won. Even though it was an extremely close game, our seniors pulled through and won the best class title one last time before saying goodbye. The week of battle of the classes offered more, though, than a competition and at the end of the day the entire school won. Everybody worked together with their classes and produced the most positive competition with the other grades. The school attendance was fantastic and our commons were lit up with joy and happiness. More events like Battle of the Classes could really help the school environment out, so thank you to Ms. Williscroft and the Student Government who worked hard to make this week possible.
