An annual event held every year at the Pinelands Regional High School is Senior Take Over. Senior Take Over is a day just for the seniors, in which they get to “takeover” for one of their favorite staff members. Not only do they get to walk in the shoes as the person they are portraying, but they also dress the part and act as the role that was chosen.
The seniors of 2022 took over the Pinelands Regional High School on February 9th, 2022. Heron Boyd was our principal, Mr. Henderson for the day. In place of one of our assistant principals, Mr. Loomis, senior Michele Ramos took his position. Now their jobs were not all hard work and sweat. Heron Boyd stated that he “observed teachers, broke up a staged fight, pranked students with detention, and even held an assembly.” He expressed that being held to the high standards of a principal can feel “amazing yet scary at the same time.” These students were given high authority for the day and they enjoyed every second of it. Our staff and their minis were teaching classes and running errands around the school. Seniors that took over classrooms were teaching the classes that came in every period.
It has been an annual event to let the students take over the school for the day. Some students choose to take on the role of a teacher who has the career path they want to follow. Giving students this opportunity to see what the staff’s days are like provides insight into how grateful we should be for our staff and help them decide their own career paths. As we help our seniors step into their career paths and give them the privileges they deserve, we are also helping them step into the real world.
