Virtual vs. Traditional Snowdays

As the days grow colder, there is bound to be more chances of snow. Whether you want them to happen or not, snow days are going to occur. For some, these days are a break from school, a time to play outside in the snow. For others, they may not enjoy these days as much; but why? Well snow days can take away possible days of summer vacation. The more you have during the school year, the less days during the summer. However, what if we could go to school but also stay home?
Due to the global pandemic that struck the world in March of 2020, remote learning was a way for students to go to school and learn, all while staying safe at home. This has caused a new way of snowdays to occur. In the state of New Jersey, it is required that we have three regular snowdays before we can transfer to virtual ones. Except, what if we were to go completely virtual on snowdays? What if we were to revert back to how it used to be. Most importantly, what are people’s opinions on virtual snow days? Below are some responses of people who have opinions:
“I would like to have virtual snow days, that way we wouldn’t have to worry about making up days at the end of the year. However! Only if they are half days.” -Joseph Rock
“I'd prefer to make up for the days at the end of the year. So I’d rather keep snowdays the way they were.” -David Dering
“I'm okay with doing virtual snow days, so that we do not have to make them up in the summer.” -Sophia Vargas
“I support the idea of virtual snow days, I especially like the idea of how we have to have three real snow days before we can go virtual.” -Dorthy Gleason
“I think any snow day should be virtual. It Should be a half day predetermined, so that students can do work but still have time to play in the snow afterwards.” -Kevin Kokowski
Now that we have some opinions from some students and staff, think about what your opinion might be on the subject? Would you be willing to take virtual snow days? Or would you rather stick to the more traditional snow days where you can do nothing but whatever you want all day. Just keep in mind, you still have to make those days up eventually.
